| If you need to change your Oil Pump gasket on your 1FZ-FE, the OEM Toyota Phillips Head Screws holding on the Oil Pump Cover most likely will not be re-used. Actually getting them out in one piece would be a small miracle. They are fastened with Locktite from the factory at a seeming 500 lb ft torque rating and aren't an ideal fastener to service the Oil Pump Cover - not that you plan to do it more than once. Trying to remove them with the timing cover/Oil Pump housing is no easy feat. On my particular Preventative Maintenance Oil Pump Gasket replacement, I was fortunate enough to have the front timing cover/Oil Pump housing on my workbench. Even under optimal conditions, I could not get the original soft screws out without stripping all of them, forcing me to drill out the heads and use an extractor to remove the left-overs. Not particularly fun. So when I was putting it back together, I decided to save myself a lot of frustration for the next time and put something a lot stronger and serviceable back in. |

The Torx design allows much more torque to be applied to the fastener to remove it without having to apply force in the direction of the fastener as the OEM Phillips Heads require. Torx screws are also very resistant to stripping, unlike allen head sockets. These particular Torx screws are fastened with a T-30 Torx drive you can find at any hardware or automotive store. Removing them for the next Oil Pump Gasket service will be a hassle free experience. The Stainless Steel Oil Pump Cover Torx Kits consist of 7 Stainless Steel Class 3A thread fit Torx brand screws that have a Rockwell hardness of B70, and minimum tensile strength of 70,000 psi.
